When you think of a city break in Milan, green spaces and large urban parks don’t exactly spring to mind. But if you take a step back from the hustle and bustle of the city, you will find yourself in the serenity of one of Milan’s best kept secrets. So whether you want to take a break from shopping or if you simply want to go somewhere for a peaceful early morning run, here we’ve shortlisted our favourite green spaces in Milan.

Morning Runs

Giardini Pubblici Indro Montanelli (formerly known as Giardini di Porta Venezia) is Milan’s answer to New York’s Central Park. Jog through the manicured lawns on the clear pathways and admire the beauty of this 18th century Italian city park on your morning run.

Day Planner Tip: Turn your morning exercise into a cultural afternoon - the gardens are also home to the natural history museum and the city’s planetarium!
If you want to live like a local, why not take your morning run to Parco Forlanini? Located close to Linate airport, this park is a favourite amongst tourists and residents alike. If the aim of your city break in Milan is to relax against the backdrop of beautiful greenery, go no further than Parco Forlanini for that Italian countryside getaway vibe.

Afternoon Strolls in the City

Giardino della Guastalla is arguably one of Milan’s most beautiful city parks. Located just behind the Palazzo di Giustizia, this is one of Milan’s oldest gardens dating back to the 16th century. Now a popular place amongst young professionals on their lunch break, this is the perfect place to escape from the city centre crowds. Take a peaceful stroll through the pristine gardens or enjoy your lunch in a quiet spot by the fountain and marvel at the beauty of Milan’s classical parks.

Parco Nord is the largest park in Milan and perfect for an afternoon walk or a BBQ. It is so easy to lose yourself and relax in this beautiful green urban space. If the weather is good, Parco Nord is the ideal place to sit down with a book or have a picnic and simply unwind.

Post Dinner Walk

Monte Stella features the most beautiful views of the city. Despite being located slightly outside the centre, the views overlooking Milan are definitely worth the trip. Take a walk up Monte Stella’s hill on the last night of your city break in Milan to watch the breathtaking sunset over the city.

How to Get There

In under two hours and from as little as £85 you can fly direct from London to Milan Linate Airport with easyJet this summer. A city break in Milan makes for a most convenient and relaxing getaway, but it isn’t just the flights that are quick and low-cost! Book a private car with Shuttle Direct and you can get from the airport to the city centre in just 31 minutes – it takes less than a minute to book!
