If you are anything like me, you will always be looking out for the latest ski equipment so that you can impress on your next trip. Unfortunately, this equipment often comes with a very hefty price tag that is not particularly friendly for those on a tight budget (especially if you have little ones too!).

Renting ski equipment after scouring the web for last minute ski deals may be your usual approach to these holidays, but I have some top tips for those that dream of owning their own gear. If you need any more persuading, just remember that having your own equipment is an investment and could help you or your family to develop their skills as well as look the part.

So, how do you get your hands on high-quality ski equipment without breaking the bank?

Time of Year

First, you need to shop at the right time of year to benefit from slashed costs. Unsurprisingly, you will find that the prices are at their lowest right at the end of the season or at the start of the off-season – around March is ideal. This is a period when shops are attempting to clear out remaining inventory but demand is also low. Another time to keep your eyes peeled is around just before and after Christmas when practically all retailers put on sales.

Where to Shop

Ok, so you know when to start looking, but where is the best place to shop for your boots, outfits, skis, boards etc.? Much like when you are buying anything these days, your first port of call should be online – this gives you the ability to shop around and find the best deals. I regularly check out eBay as an affordable source, as retailers often sell last year’s inventories for a fraction of the original price (just remember to check their rating and do some research!). Here are a few other places to find the best off-season deals:

Second-Hand

It may not be as glamorous as purchasing new, but buying second-hand gear can save a small fortune; you can find some steals if you know where to look. Craigslist and eBay are two options, but you must be careful with these places and always ensure that you are buying from a credible source and avoid any deals which seem too good to be true (hint: they are!). Alternatively, www.geartrade.com is an established and popular site where items drop in price every week that they are not sold.

Come Back for Last Minute Ski Deals

Hopefully, this information will help you to find some great deals and ensure that you never have to rent equipment again! I know just how expensive skiing can be, particularly for families, but I can arrange some fantastic last minute ski deals on catered chalets in and around the ski season, so be sure to come back to me later in the year (once you’re fully kitted out!) and I’ll let you know what deals I’ve got on.
