A lot of people experience discomforts when defecating such as pain, difficulty to pass stool, blood oozing out and other. These are none other than the classic signs of hemorrhoids, which is a condition wherein increased intra-abdominal pressure leads to the distention of veins in the perianal area.

Hemorrhoids may result from activities that increase the pressure and obstruction in the perianal veins such as frequent sitting and standing, constipation and excessive straining, sexual activity, obesity, heart failure and liver cirrhosis (with portal hypertension). If these underlying conditions are not addressed, the veins will remain dilated and continue to cause discomforts.

This condition affects both men and women of varying ages. It is not very selective in its victims – if you are exposed to the aforementioned conditions, you will most likely develop the disease. Pharmacologic and surgical intervention are available to manage the disease, but if you want to go natural, you can opt to choose herbs for hemorrhoids that have been proven safe and effective by a lot of people across the globe.

1.Witch Hazel

This herb is used to relieve pain in mothers who’ve had stitches in childbirth and it also has a lot of benefits for patients with hemorrhoids. Witch hazel helps vessels contract thus preventing bleeding and inflammation. It can be chilled before applied to the affected area, or given in adjunct to cold application.

2.Butcher’s broom

Like witch hazel and bilberry, the butcher’s broom helps prevent bleeding and inflammation and also has properties which strengthen the wall of the veins. It is recommended to be taken in capsule or tea form, although topical treatment has also proven to be effective in some cases. However, pregnant women, people with hypertension, benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), patients taking medications such as alpha blockers and MAOI should avoid taking the herb without the advice of a physician.

3.Horse Chestnut

This herb is often recommended to enhance venous circulation. It is included in folk medicine to relieve inflammation and swelling. It can be taken in capsule or tea form and applied topically as a compress. Be warned – do not take the raw seeds, leaves, bark and flowers by mouth because they are highly poisonous. Use standardized seed extract products to ensure that the toxins are removed. This should not be used for more than 3 months, thus if condition still persist after the given period consult your physician.

Using the herbs for hemorrhoids accompanied by proper diet, exercise and good bowel habits, you will be able to address this irritating and recurrent condition the natural way. Keep in mind that these herbs should not be taken without consulting your physician. If symptoms persist and other adverse effects are experienced, immediately seek professional help.
